We had a fun and experimental workshop today on working in series. We discussed how to create a set of paintings that are related to each other, either through:

  • A common idea or concept
  • A shared colour palette
  • Similar tools or marks
  • A sequential storyboard

We explored different techniques, including using patterns, loose brushstrokes, collage elements, and stencils. We also worked with a variety of materials, such as paints, crayons, and inks.

By the end of the workshop, everyone had produced six small paintings and had experimented with some new techniques. It was amazing to see how diverse everyone’s artwork was, even though we were all working with the same materials and techniques.

Here are some of the key takeaways from the workshop:

  • Working in series can be a great way to explore a particular idea or concept in depth.
  • It can also be a way to develop your own unique style.
  • There are many different ways to create a series of paintings, so experiment and find what works best for you.

I encourage you to explore working in a series. Happy creating.
