Gunlom and Maguk – Kakadu

We enjoyed a couple of nice days camping and exploring Gunlom and then Maguk (Barramundi Gorge).

The road to Gunlom was a wide dirt road but quite correlated.

After setting up camp, we were surprised by the strange green colour of the pool and then walked up the very steep, rocky path to the top of the waterfall. At the top you are rewarded with an amazing view over southern Kakadu and a refreshing swim in the natural infinity pool.

The next day we packed up and drove to Maguk. Enjoyed the lovely campground in the bush under some nice shady trees. Although there are basic toilets you need to bring your own water.

This time it was an easy 2 km walk through some monsoon forest along the rocky and sandy creek bed to another lovely pool and waterfall. The water was so clear you could see little fish darting about.

We stopped at a ‘secret’ location on our way home to admire another lovely swimming spot and waterfall which was full of butterflies. We have certainly enjoyed exploring some new places in the Top End this dry season.
