Darwin and Surrounds in our Camper Trailer

We have just spend a week enjoying our local area in our camper. The weather is lovely, mind you I wouldn’t mind if it was a bit cooler!

Packed up from Dundee Beach and took the back Litchfield road to visit our friends who have a block out of Batchelor. Stopped at Townsend crossing for a look around and then to an old abandoned tin mine. The little shed is worth a sketch or painting sometime in the future!

We did a walk up Walker creek and enjoyed a refreshing swim up the top after a hot walk in the middle of the day. There were some lovely areas full of pale whitish cycads which made for some lovely photos.

Back on the road to see our friends and stayed the night with them. Lovely quad ride around the property enjoying the sunset and checking out the croc in their croc trap.

Next day we headed the back way to Robin Falls. We have been in the Territory for over twenty years and can’t remember visiting here before. I loved the peaceful campsite right on the rivers edge. Enjoyed regular dips in the water and thought what a wonderful place it would be to bring the grand kids.

Early morning walk over boulders playing around with our camera settings to try and get some arty shots. The falls at the top were pretty spectacular and although there was a bit of a pool it was too cold for us.

It was tempting just to stay here for a few days but we packed up and went on to Douglas Hot Springs. The camp area was fairly busy but not too crazy. Spent most of the day lying in the river and chatting.

The next morning we drove to Butterfly Gorge and did the top lookout walk and then scrambled down the hill to the gorge and amazing escarpment. Another place we hadn’t fully visited before. The water was fairly stagnant and very inviting so we hiked back up the hill instead of swimming across the river and down to get back to the car.

Packed up and drove to Edith Falls but the camp grounds were full with all the travellers this time of year so we headed onto Katherine and camped at Nitmiluk Gorge. Decided to stay a couple of nights. We did the Baruwei Loop walk and spent a day chilling, doing some washing, charging devices in the laundry and downloaded heaps of photos …

… and I got a few sketches done.

We are off to the southern end of Kakadu, on our way home. Hoping to camp in a few other places we haven’t visited before and keep enjoying ourselves.

Happy holidays!
