Some Images from USQ McGregor Summer School

This gallery contains some of my favourite images from the Photography and Photoshop Techniques course with Don Hildred at USQ McGregor Summer School that I attended during January 2016.

It was great to have a whole week completely dedicated to capturing and processing images.

I particularly enjoyed spending time with a friendly and entertaining group of photographers: sharing ideas, comparing images, and constantly being inspired the images we produced.

Gardens by the Bay – Singapore

artyobsessions-1382During our recent stopover in Singapore, we visited the Gardens by the Bay complex.

Although it had great write-ups on Trip Advisor, I was sceptical. I guess having the main attractions called the Flower Dome and the Cloud Forest didn’t help.

How wrong I was. I’d forgotten the Singapore factor – if they decide to build an attraction, they really go all out. What an amazing place. Weird and beautiful at the same time.

Here are some of my favourite images from the visit. And yes, it was quite a shock to realise that I had just spent several hours taking photos of flowers…

Early Morning at the Beach

Gathering for the sunriseI must admit that its not very often that I get up before dawn and make my way to the beach to capture the amazing light and serenity as the sun makes its appearance for the day.

It’s worth it when I do.

View from 22

Sunset constructionSometimes you need to plan ahead and go to some effort to find the right place and the right time for that special photo. At other times, you just need to walk out onto your balcony and take advantage of whatever opportunity presents itself.

These images are all from our 22nd floor balcony in the middle of Darwin City.

Impressions of Dundee Beach

Whenever I post or send a sunset photo from Dundee, my brother is always quick to respond suggesting that it means that we didn’t catch any fish.

Some of my favourite images of Dundee Beach without a fish in sight.

Hoi An Full Moon Lantern Festival

artyobsessions-2752By pure chance, our visit to Hoi An coincided with a Full Moon Lantern Festival. These festivals are held on the 14th day of each lunar month, and locals and tourists flock to the old town section of Hoi An. All electrical lights are turned off to be replaced by lanterns and candles.

The old town is closed to motorised vehicles every night and on festival night, the only way to get to there was by boat or foot.

At times the biggest challenge was to find a gap amongst the crowd to make the photo.

Venice at Night

artyobsessions-2717Recently during the process of getting all our photos into the one place, I stumbled onto lots of images that I only have a vague recollection of flicking through – maybe once. Here are some night images from our not so recent visit to Venice.

Corroboree Billabong

artyobsessions-3260Here’s a fishless series of images from Corroboree Billabong.

I must confess that I can’t think of a better place to not catch barra.

Stokes Hill Wharf

To cap off a relaxing weekend, we headed down to the jetty – Stokes Hill Wharf – with thoughts of eating something Thai.

Will I take the camera? Does it change a Sunday evening walk into a photo expedition?

Yes, I took it.
